Not all machines are created equal. Geneva helps you find the right one for your budget and skill level, whether you're buying new, secondhand, or already have one at home.

Understanding Your Sewing Machine
Get properly acquainted with your machine - every dial, lever, and foot explained so nothing feels mysterious or intimidating.

Threading the Machine
The thing that stops most beginners before they even start. Geneva takes it step by step so you'll thread confidently every single time.

Understanding Tension and Stitch Length
Two of the most important settings on your machine and the ones most people ignore. Learn what they actually do and how to adjust them for perfect results.

Troubleshooting
Skipped stitches, bunching thread, jammed fabric. Geneva covers the most common problems and exactly how to fix them so nothing derails your progress.

Buying Fabrics
How much to buy, what to look for, and how to avoid the most common shopping mistakes β€” whether you're at a fabric store or browsing online.

How to Hem a Garment
The finishing touch that makes something look properly made, not homemade. Learn to hem neatly and evenly every time.

How to Use a Seam Ripper
Every sewist needs this skill β€” unpicking mistakes cleanly without damaging your fabric. It's not failure, it's part of the process.

How to Attach a Zipper

    It’s ok

I think the platform to access the class is nice but I wish the videos were longer instead of 1 min and less. It feels like a speedrun through projects which I don’t think is necessarily intuitive for beginners.

    Geneva's DIY School

Hi Zuleyma! Thank you for sharing your honest feedback about the course platform and video format - we really appreciate you taking the time to let us know your experience.

We completely understand your perspective on the video length, especially as a beginner. The short-form style was designed to make learning feel quick and accessible, but we recognise that some students prefer more detailed, step-by-step pacing to fully absorb each technique.

Your feedback about the speedrun feeling is really valuable to us. We're always looking at ways to better support different learning styles and paces, and hearing from students like you helps us understand where we can improve the learning experience for beginners who need more time with each step.

We're glad you're enjoying the platform itself, and thank you again for the thoughtful review. Feedback like yours directly helps us make the course better for future students πŸ’›

    Helpful

I like the course and have found it useful. It’s easy to watch and goes quickly. I have made some bags from watching the videos.

I wish in the projects section there was more information other than tools and materials like a list of the measurements you will need to take, how many pieces you will need to cut or approximate amount of fabric maybe needed if there is no pattern to print. It would make it easier to have the reference immediately rather than rewatching the video.

    Geneva's DIY School

    Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much for your lovely review, and how exciting that you've already made bags! πŸŽ‰

We do include project reference sheets and/or printable patterns in the project lessons β€” they should be available as a download link within each lesson. They could be easy to miss if you're not looking for them. You should find the download link and other support materials if you scroll down below the video player. If you have any trouble finding them, please reach out and we'll point you assist you.

Also, if you ever have questions as you work through the projects, our School Noticeboard is a great place to connect with us and other students and get extra support. Happy sewing! 🧡

Great investment in a skill I'll use forever

Unlike buying something you use once, this course teaches you a skill that lasts. I'm already thinking about what I'll make next. The downloadable templates and supply lists are a really nice touch.

    Geneva's DIY School

Hi Lauren! A skill that lasts forever β€” that's exactly the point and you've put it perfectly. You'll take what you've learned in this course into every single thing you make from here on. So glad the templates and supply lists were helpful too β€” we wanted to make sure you had everything you needed from day one. Happy planning for your next project! 🧡

    Beautifully made course

Everything about this course feels considered β€” the visuals, the pacing, the way Geneva talks to you. It doesn't feel like an online course, it feels like learning from a friend who's really good at sewing. Absolutely loved it.

    Geneva's DIY School

Hi Sophie! 'Learning from a friend who's really good at sewing' β€” honestly, that's exactly what we were going for, so this review means everything. Thank you for noticing the care that went into it and for sharing such a beautiful description. So happy you loved it! 🧡

Really helpful for someone who's tried before and failed

I'd attempted to learn to sew twice before and given up both times. Something about how this course is structured just clicked for me. I think it's the way Geneva anticipates where you might go wrong and addresses it before it happens.

    Geneva's DIY School

Hi Brigid! Third time lucky β€” and we're so glad this was the one that clicked! Giving something another go after it hasn't worked twice before takes real courage. You clearly just needed the right structure and approach, not more patience or talent. Thank you for sticking with it and for sharing your experience β€” this will genuinely encourage others in the same position. 🧡
